The kitchen is a very important part of the house, especially if it also has a dining area. It is the place where the family gathers at breakfast and gets to spend some quality time together before going off to their pursuits. It is also the place for the family to gather at dinner times and enjoy great meals and conversations together. It is where your kids are likely to do their homework while you prepare meals and also where your friends keep you company and help you in making preparations for a party. As you can imagine, kitchen lighting is very important to ensure that it serves well for all these various functions. So, are pendants a good way to light the kitchen to provide adequate lighting as well as a cozy atmosphere for family and friends?

Many people, including experts seem to think so. Let's look at it this way. There are few main areas of your kitchen. One is the counter top o your work area, where you do all the chopping, cutting, peeling, mixing, etc. in the process of food making. The next important area is the gas top where you do the actual cooking. If you use the oven or the microwave frequently, then those appliances also need a good source of lighting. Finally, your kitchen table, which doubles as the dining table also requires adequate lighting.

When you think about it, pendant lights are perfect for all these locations. They provided a soft, bright glow just under them. This means that the area that needs to be lit is adequately lit, yet the soft glow ensures that it is not too bright to damage the cozy atmosphere of the kitchen. Of course, you may need to supplement this kind of island pendant lighting with other lights, especially inside or under the cabinets to ensure that all places in the kitchen can be adequately lit as and when required. But, you will not be forced to endure harsh, bright light throughout the kitchen, whether you want it or not.
